Featuring chapters on twenty-four essential works of art and the artists who created them, Lumen volume one takes teachers and students (and art lovers of all kinds) on a journey through art history, from ancient times to modern days.

Tethered by the element of line, some of the artworks featured in this first volume include a Greek amphora, a Byzantine mosaic, a Celtic illuminated manuscript, Chinese calligraphy, an engraving by Albrecht Dürer, a woodblock print by Hokusai, and paintings by Rosa Bonheur, Henry Ossawa Tanner, Van Gogh, Andrew Wyeth and more.

While the book alone is adequate if it's being used by an individual, Lumen is designed to be accompanied by the art prints. The prints can be displayed in the home or classroom, and they allow students to see the works of art more clearly as they study and make comparisons between them. We do recommend that, if Lumen is being used in a larger classroom or co-op setting, each family has their own set of prints so the student can spend more attentive time with the works.

Please note: The next wave of shipments will take place on Friday, August 30.

Lumen Vol. 1: Lighting the Way to a Love of Art!

Wow!!!! Lumen Vol. 1 (Line) is utterly lovely in every way. As a person who loves art, and wants my kids to love it too, but lacks some technical knowledge, I’ve been (im)patiently waiting for this curriculum to be published since I first heard of the idea. I knew it would be delightful because I know the time, attention, and detail that went into creating it. Even so, when it arrived it blew me away! I put the first print into a frame immediately, and sat right down to read about it!! Meticulously researched, beautifully presented, simply explained…it is utterly delightful. Every aspect from the binding, to the layout, to the art prints, to the words in the lessons themselves speaks to the quality, care, and craft of both Goldberry Arts and Goldberry Press. Lumen is truly a labor of love, designed to point students to the true, good, and beautiful! I’m so excited to use this lovely lamp to light the way to a deeper understanding of art with my teenagers, and will be eagerly awaiting future volumes! I only wish we could have started when they were little!

Incredible art appreciation and study

I homeschool using Charlotte Mason’s methods and this curriculum is a perfect addition to our homeschool. I love that it’s beautiful, sturdy, chronological, thorough, and informative! We love museums and art, we do art study, and I took art classes in high school and college, but still I haven’t really taught my kids much about the actual technical elements of art, so I’m very thankful for this curriculum! I love that the prints are collected for me—and that the book also has the images, in the midst of other related artwork, discussion questions, artist biography, information, AND lessons on the element—Line, and more!

(My husband teaches history in a classical school and he already considered stealing my prints—they are so well done!)
